Golden Eagles Fall to Otters, Suffer First CCAA Loss, 12-9

SEASIDE --- In perhaps the biggest win in the program's short Division II history, the CSU MOTEREY BAY Otters rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to upset top-ranked CAL STATE L.A., 12-9, Friday in CCAA action.

With their first conference loss, the Golden Eagles dropped to 22-3-1 overall and 12-1 in the CCAA. CSUMB goes to 10-21 overall and 7-14 in the CCAA with their thrid straight home victory.

The Otters rallied from a 5-2 defecit with four runs in the fourth to take a one run lead. The Otters led 8-6 before CSULA's Jeff Carroll, the leading hitter in the CCAA, nailed a two-run double in the eighth to give the Golden Eagles a 9-8 lead.

The Otters opened the bottom of the eighth with three consecutive doubles. and had five hits in their final inning.

Lucas Allendorf (2-1) pitched two innings of relief and struck out Mike Diaz with the bases loaded to get the win.

Gerald Rommel went 2-for-4 (both doubles) with 2 RBI. Jacob Roe was 2-for-5 with three RBIs  as the Otters outhit CSULA 14-10.
